Argentina and their captain, Lionel Messi, arrived at the Ezeiza international airport in Buenos Aires on Tuesday. They had just won the FIFA World Cup.

After beating France in Sunday’s exciting final, the players will spend the night at the Argentine Football Association (AFA) training center near the airport, where thousands of fans are waiting to meet them.

Then, at midday on Tuesday, they will start a tour of the city center of Buenos Aires, where millions of people are expected to be out on holiday.

Messi, who scored twice in the final, was the first player to get off the plane, holding the World Cup high. His coach, Lionel Scaloni, was right behind him.

Forward Julian Alvarez’s four goals in Qatar were a big surprise. He was one of the next players to come out, along with Lautaro Martinez, who was carrying a drum and took Alvarez’s place on the team.

The plane’s tail had a picture of Messi and the words “one team, one country, one dream” on it.

The players walked along a red carpet from the plane to an open-top bus while their World Cup theme song, “Muchachos” by the ska band La Mosca, played in the background.

Not long after that, the bus went to the AFA complex.

Messi finally got the one trophy that was missing from his record-breaking career. He did this by scoring a penalty in the first half and scoring again in extra time, a performance that will go down in World Cup history.

France came back from being down 2-0 in the last 10 minutes. Kylian Mbappe scored twice to tie the game and force extra time at Lusail Stadium, where 89,000 people watched the match.

Messi’s second goal of the game in extra time seemed to end the game. However, Messi’s teammate Kylian Mbappe scored only the second hat trick in a World Cup final to tie the game at 3-3 and force penalties.

Gonzalo Montiel scored the winning penalty kick, and Argentina won the shootout 4–2.
