Saim Ayub has etched his name in the annals of cricket history by becoming the first player to score a century and a double-century in a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final.

The remarkable feat occurred during the 2023/24 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

Opening the batting for the Karachi Region Whites, Ayub demonstrated his formidable skills with the bat, scoring an impressive 203 runs in 259 balls during the first innings. The Faisalabad Region had won the toss and opted to bowl, but they were met with an indomitable partnership between Ayub and Shan Masood, who contributed a solid 180 runs. Their partnership amassed a staggering 379 runs, guiding Karachi Whites to a total of 543.

The Faisalabad Region struggled in response, with Mir Hamza (5-44) and Shahnawaz Dahani (4-50) delivering exceptional bowling performances, which resulted in their team being bowled out for a mere 124 runs.

Despite enjoying a commanding 419-run lead, Karachi Whites’ captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed, made the bold decision to bat once more, likely influenced by the substantial time remaining in the match. In this second innings, Ayub continued his fine form by scoring 109 runs, making him the first player to achieve a double century and a century in a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final.

This extraordinary accomplishment places Saim Ayub in an elite list of Pakistani cricketers who have scored a double hundred and another century in the same first-class match. Some of the notable cricketers on this list include legends such as Zaheer Abbas and Younis Khan.
