PSL 9 Player Draft Order Unveiled: Teams Gear Up for Selection Showdown

In an exciting development for cricket enthusiasts, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the pick order for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine Player Draft. Quetta Gladiators, eager to bolster their squad, will have the honor of making the first pick in the Platinum category.

According to the PCB, the selection order for the first round is determined by the inverse order of the previous season’s standings, ensuring a fair and competitive process. Karachi Kings, the defending champions, will follow with the second pick, while two-time champions Islamabad United will make the third selection.

Peshawar Zalmi and last season’s runners-up Multan Sultans will make the fourth and fifth picks, respectively, setting the stage for Lahore Qalandars, winners of the past two editions, to conclude the first round with the sixth pick.

To further enhance fairness, the PCB disclosed that each franchise will have the opportunity to occupy the first pick in a specific category. Quetta Gladiators will lead the Platinum picks, Karachi Kings will have the first Diamond pick, Peshawar Zalmi will open the Gold picks, and Multan Sultans will kick off the Silver category. Islamabad United will have the first pick in the Emerging category, while Lahore Qalandars will initiate the Supplementary picks.

In preparation for the flagship event tentatively scheduled from 8 February to 24 March 2024, the PCB has opened the registration window for foreign players. The highly anticipated PSL season nine Draft is set to take place in mid-December, immediately following the conclusion of the National T20.

Teams are now in the process of submitting relegation requests for players before finalizing retentions. In an intriguing twist, all teams will have the opportunity to match a player’s base category following the submission of relegation requests. If a player’s base category is not matched, they may be relegated to a category below their original base category.
