Shahid Afridi Shares the Reason Behind His Daughter’s Marriage to Shaheen

Former Pakistani cricket captain Shahid Afridi recently shared the heartfelt reasons behind his decision to marry his daughter, Ansha Afridi, to Pakistan’s talented left-arm pacer, Shaheen Afridi.

The wedding took place in a private ceremony in September 2023, with the presence of several national team players, including prominent figures like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Imam-ul-Haq.

In a candid conversation on a local television channel, Afridi disclosed the long-standing connection between the two families and the qualities that drew him to Shaheen as a son-in-law. He emphasized the significance of being a good human being, stating, “A human should be a human; that is the most important thing.”

Although Afridi didn’t know Shaheen personally at the time of their engagement, their families had been in touch regarding this matter for a considerable period. The elder members of their families had known each other, but contact had been lost. However, Afridi was swayed by the resounding praise of Shaheen’s character from those who had interacted with him during his domestic cricket career. He was described as mature and possessing an admirable attitude, which left a lasting impression on Afridi and played a pivotal role in the union of their families.

Afridi also addressed the topic of offers he had received to venture into the world of acting, including offers from India. Despite the tempting prospects, he maintained his focus on cricket and never seriously considered transitioning to the entertainment industry. While he did engage in some acting through television commercials, his identity was firmly rooted in the world of cricket, and he and his family had no prior ties to the film industry.

It’s worth noting that the wedding of Shaheen and Ansha took place in February of the same year. The nikkah, a traditional Islamic marriage ceremony, was conducted at a local mosque in Karachi, with close relatives from both families in attendance. The union of these two prominent cricketing families marked a significant chapter in their personal lives and garnered attention from cricket enthusiasts and the public alike.
