Notwithstanding being frequently linked to the head coaching position at the Brazil national team, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti stated he still has plenty of time to decide on his contract with the La Liga squad.
The Brazilian FA (CBF) president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, has stated that Ancelotti, 64, is the favorite choice to succeed Tite, who departed following Brazil’s World Cup quarterfinal elimination. Ancelotti’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.
When asked if he would receive a new contract from Real as a Christmas gift, Ancelotti joked in a news conference, saying, “The most important thing is that I already got my present, which was to stay here as the head coach of Real Madrid.
“As I said, we still have time to think about that (contract extension),” added the Italian, speaking ahead of Real’s home game against Villarreal.
“But in terms of presents, tomorrow my players could give me one by winning this match. The thing I want the most is to finish well this year by winning these two games left, so we can have a quiet Christmas.”
Second-place Real Madrid hopes to go up to the top of the La Liga rankings with a victory over Villarreal, who are currently in 14th place, later on Sunday.
