Following a crushing loss to Everton earlier in the week, Chelsea bounced back spectacularly, winning 2-0 at Stamford Bridge against Sheffield United in the Premier League (PL) on Saturday.

With just two wins, Sheffield is currently at the bottom of the Premier League standings. Chelsea took advantage of this to gain what appeared to be the easiest points of the season.

Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s head coach, made tactical position changes shortly before halftime, which produced excellent effects barely 16 minutes into the last 45 minutes, despite the team’s unsteady start and inability to convert their opportunities in the first half.

Pochettino’s situation improved when Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson scored in the 54th and 61st minutes, respectively. Chelsea’s poor performances this season have put the head coach under constant scrutiny.

“I’m very pleased,” Pochettino told BBC Match of the Day. “The performance was good. It’s always good against a team who play aggressively with a low block.

“In the second half we changed the position of Palmer and Raheem Sterling, we tried to put Palmer and [Mykhailo] Mudryk in a better position in front of goal.

“I’m confident, even when we lose. I really believe in the players and the club. Now it’s about to use that in the next competition in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.”

Although Chelsea brought in 13 players in the summer, Pochettino has had trouble getting his team to play a steady type of game. Even with their victory today, they still only have six victories and seven defeats from their 17 league games.

Although the victory over Sheffield is encouraging, Chelsea has to maintain this momentum in order to start a winning run. In order to qualify for European football at the end of the season, Pochettino and his team must resolve the problems that have so far prevented them from being consistent.
