PAK vs NZ: Usman Khan shares his challenges during cricketing journey

Usman Khan, a batter in the Pakistan T20I squad for the series against New Zealand, has opened up about the challenges he faced during his cricketing journey.

Originally from Farooqabad, the 28-year-old moved to Sheikupura, but finding little success there, he decided to relocate to Karachi where he believed he could gain more recognition and advance his career.

“My brother was a first-class cricketer and played for The Karachi Port Trust (KPT). I also played for them and in my early stages of the career where I would stay in a complex and carry on with by cricket duties,” Usman revealed in a video released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Despite his hard work in the bustling city and his participation in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), he found it difficult to meet his family’s needs. As a result, he chose to move to Ajman (UAE) where he could both work and play cricket.

“I worked in Ajman Gas as a laborer and also played cricket. The owner helped me a lot which helped the team to win many local tournaments,” he added.

Usman participated in the 2022 edition of the T10 league where he was named the local player of the tournament, marking the beginning of his career’s upward trajectory.

“Andy Flower saw me in T10 and on the basis of performances there, I played in Multan Sultans as a local player in PSL 2023.

In the 2024 edition, he was contracted with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and represented the Sultans as an overseas player.

Recently, he decided to fulfill his dream of playing for Pakistan, leading to the termination of his contract with the ECB and a subsequent five-year ban from playing any form of cricket in the UAE.

He is anticipated to be part of the starting XI in the first T20I, scheduled to take place in Rawalpindi.
