KANDY: Pakistan have been eliminated from the semi-final race of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 following their Super 8 match in Kandy.
Pakistan secured a thrilling five-run victory over Sri Lanka national cricket team in the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, but the win was not enough to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
After winning the toss, the Sri Lanka team invited Pakistan to bat first. Powered by brilliant knocks from Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman, Pakistan posted 212/8 in 20 overs.
Farhan scored a magnificent 100, while Fakhar contributed 84 runs, anchoring the innings with an aggressive display.
To secure a semi-final berth, Pakistan needed to restrict Sri Lanka to 147 runs or less. However, the bowlers were unable to contain the opposition within the required margin, resulting in Pakistan’s exit from the tournament.
With Pakistan failing to qualify, New Zealand team advanced to the semi-finals from Group 2, securing three points and a superior net run rate.
England cricket team had already confirmed their place in the final four from the group.
Pakistan’s campaign ends despite a strong batting performance, highlighting the decisive impact of net run rate in the tournament’s Super 8 stage.
