Spotify: AIs currently rule the technological landscape. After winning photography competitions and making search engines buzz, they are no longer just an assistant on our smartphones and smart speakers; they will soon be Spotify DJs as well.

With your own customised playlist, Spotify, one of the best music streaming services in the world, has just unveiled a new DJ feature powered by OpenAI technology. This feature was developed by the same team as ChatGPT.

The DJ card should now be visible in the Music Feed for Premium users in the US and Canada using Spotify on their Android or iOS devices. You might have to wait a day or two for the update to go live if you can’t right away. When you tap on it, the DJ AI will start playing tracks based on the music you typically enjoy. Additionally, it will offer brief commentary in between songs like a respectable radio host.

As seen in the trailer above, the AI comments on why it chose certain songs, such as saying it’s returning to music you “had on a lot back in 2018,” though it’ll apparently be able to comment on if a track is recently released and give you facts about the artist (with the assistance of Spotify’s human editors). If you don’t like the AI’s vibe, you can change it by pressing the DJ icon at the bottom right of the screen.

This feature appears to be very cool, and if the AI voice sounds as realistic in real life as it does in the trailer, it could be a fun way to listen to your Spotify library. It should also be a good way to discover new tracks, as the press release(opens in new tab) states that its DJ will assist you in discovering new tracks and artists that it believes you’ll enjoy.

DJ is still in beta, which is why it has a limited release, so expect some bugs here and there. As an Apple Music subscriber, this announcement has already convinced me to try Spotify so that I can try DJ.
