LONDON: British newspaper The Telegraph has claimed that Mojtaba Khamenei narrowly escaped death during an Israeli strike on February 28.
According to the report, Mojtaba Khamenei was present in the same building as his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, where a senior leadership meeting was underway at the time of the attack.
The publication said it had obtained an audio recording of the Supreme Leader’s head of protocol, identified as Mazhar Hosseini, and claimed the recording had been verified.
As per the audio, Mojtaba Khamenei had stepped out of the room moments before the strike and moved towards the garden area, which helped him avoid the full impact of the missile. He reportedly sustained only a leg injury.
The report further quoted the audio as saying that he was on the stairs outside when the missile struck the building.
It is worth noting that the February 28 attack allegedly resulted in the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, marking a major escalation in regional tensions.
