Renowned Welsh rock guitarist Phil Campbell, best known for his decades-long tenure with the iconic band Motörhead, has passed away at the age of 64.
The musician reportedly succumbed after a difficult medical procedure, according to a statement from his band, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Philip Anthony Campbell,” the band shared on social media. “He spent time in critical care following the procedure and passed away peacefully. Phil was a devoted husband, an extraordinary father, and a proud grandfather, lovingly known as ‘Bampi.’ He was cherished by all who knew him and will be deeply missed.”
The band added that Campbell’s music and memory would continue to inspire fans and fellow musicians alike.
Having joined Motörhead in 1984, Campbell remained a key member of the group for more than three decades, performing on several of the band’s most celebrated albums until the death of frontman Lemmy Kilmister in 2015, which ultimately led to the band’s disbandment.
In 2016, Campbell launched Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons alongside his sons Todd, Dane, and Tyla, continuing his musical journey and performing for audiences across the world.
Throughout his illustrious career, Campbell earned immense admiration within the rock and heavy metal fraternity, leaving behind a powerful musical legacy that will resonate with generations of fans.
