Adventure mode: activated Prime Video just gave fans a first peek at its upcoming live-action “Tomb Raider” series, starring Sophie Turner as the iconic Lara Croft.
Packed with next-level thrills, globe-trotting stunts, and boss-level action, the show promises to take the legendary video game heroine from screen to IRL in a whole new way.
Currently in production, the series is a glorious glow-up of the classic franchise, greenlit by Prime Video in May 2024. Turner’s casting dropped later that year in November, joining the hall of fame of actresses who’ve rocked Croft before, including Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
The all-star cast also includes Martin Bobb-Semple, Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge is serving major boss energy as creator, writer, and executive producer, with Chad Hodge co-showrunning. Jonathan van Tulleken directs and executive produces, adding his own vibe to the adventure.
Since hitting consoles in 1996, Lara Croft has been the ultimate action queen. The latest game, Shadow of the Tomb Raider (2018), kept the hype alive, and fans are stoked for the next two games: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (2026) and Tomb Raider: Catalyst (2027).
The series is executive produced by Crystal Dynamics; Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins via Wells Street Productions; Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson of Story Kitchen; Michael Scheel; Hodge; van Tulleken; and Legendary Television.
Production is handled by Story Kitchen, Crystal Dynamics, and Amazon MGM Studios, with Waller-Bridge under her overall deal at Amazon MGM.
Developed through a collab between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios, via Story Kitchen’s first-look deal, the series is set to level up the “Tomb Raider” universe, bringing Lara Croft’s epic quests to screens everywhere and giving fans major adventure vibes.
