KARACHI: The Karachi has witnessed devastating traffic accidents over the last 10 months and 18 days, leaving 765 families shattered, and police report.
In the last 24 hours alone, four people lost their lives in separate accidents near Maripur, Super Highway, North Karachi, and Hassan Square.
Authorities said reckless driving by heavy vehicles, dumpers, buses, and other traffic violators has claimed the lives of 232 people over the period, including men, women, and children.
Overall, 10,800 people have been injured in various traffic incidents across the city. Heavy vehicles, including dumpers, buses, minibuses, coaches, trailers, and trucks, were responsible for most of the fatalities:
Bus accidents: 31 deaths
Minibus accidents: 11 deaths
Coach accidents: 6 deaths
Trailer accidents: 87 deaths
Mazda truck accidents: 21 deaths
Dumpers: 41 deaths
Water tankers: 52 deaths
Oil tankers: 7 deaths
Motorcyclists make up the largest group of victims, followed by pedestrians and occupants of other vehicles. Police officials have urged motorists to follow traffic rules strictly to prevent further loss of life.
