The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast start of the monsoon season in different parts of the country from July 1.
According to Meteorological Department spokesperson Anjum Nazir, the monsoon is expected to start from northeastern Punjab and Kashmir. He said rain may fall in northern areas of the country and northeastern Punjab from July 1.
Anjum Nazir said that, there are currently no signs of the monsoon reaching Sindh, and no significant rainfall is expected in the province until July 5.
Talking about Karachi, he said a low-pressure system developing in the Bay of Bengal could bring rain to Karachi and other parts of Sindh. However, he also said that overall rainfall in Sindh, including Karachi, is likely to stay below normal this monsoon season.
Anjum Nazir further said that neighboring India recorded 43 percent below-average rainfall in June, a trend that could influence weather patterns across the region.
