Shaun Tait says, ‘Naseem Shah reminds me of myself’
The bowling coach for the Pakistan cricket team has praised the country's...
Shaun Tait was chosen to lead Pakistan’s fast-bowling team in February 2022. His nomination made sense, especially to the cricketing nation that has the highest reverence for its fast-bowling tradition because he was one of the fastest bowlers of his era.
The Pakistani backroom personnel at the time felt in transition simply by virtue of the fact that Saqlain Mushtaq’s interim employment had just been extended by an additional 12 months.
Pakistan has a number of exceptionally youthful, shockingly quick, and fast bowlers. Tait was a member of the squad throughout a hectic, turbulent year that was not without its share of happiness and frustration.
We chatted with Tait about his time in Pakistan during one of those depressing times, the night before England completed a 3-0 Test victory.
He discussed the streakiness of Hasan Ali, the pace of Mohammad Hasnain, and the leadership abilities of Naseem Shah one by one. And about how nice they are, which he would like to stomp out of them as an Australian.
It was enjoyable. It was very thrilling. I cherished the time leading up to the Asia Cup, World Cup, and those events. Our bowlers were awake and prepared, and they began to bowl quickly.
With large spectators and our players bowling with good pace, we had a few big games versus India. That, to me, is it. As a player, entertaining was what I enjoyed the most. As a coach, I enjoy watching the bowlers amuse, rush in to bowl quickly, and take wickets. That was fun, then.
