Novak Djokovic said he is by now seeking forward to next year’s Olympic Games in Paris, where he hopes to win a gold medal that has eluded him in an otherwise glittering career.

The number one ranked Djokovic hasn’t been able to improve on his bronze medal from Beijing 2008 in 2012, 2016 or 2021. The 37-year-old Serbian expressed his hope to be in good health and shape for next year’s championship.

The tennis tournament in Paris 2024 will be held on the Roland Garros claycourts, where Djokovic has won two of his 22 Grand Slam titles — in 2016 and 2021.

“I’m looking forward to the Olympics,” Djokovic said after defeating Tallon Griekspoor on Wednesday in Dubai. “I hope I’ll be able to play healthy for next year in Paris.

“It’s going to be played on clay at Roland Garros, so I’m familiar with those grounds. “I’m hoping for my best Olympic result there.”

Djokovic, the Australian Open champion, is in his 378th week at number one after surpassing Steffi Graf, and he has stated that he is hungry for more records and success.

“I try to be very clear with myself about what my goals are and what I want from competitive tennis,” Djokovic said.

“This is how I was raised and taught by some of the most important people in my life, including my parents and some of the early coaches I had.

“This kind of mentality helped me to always be so devoted to the game. I always remind myself it’s the willpower, the desire to succeed that’s an essential ingredient in the whole formula.”
