Davos: On the occasion of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Sameer Chishty, Executive Chairman of AsiaPak Investments told BOL in an exclusive conversation that Pakistan is now recognized as a prominent player, holding a reputation both in its region and worldwide.
He said that AsiaPak is a private investment firm that has been investing in Pakistan for the past ten years. During this time they have successfully acquired and invested in ten companies, created employment opportunities and also paid significant taxes to the government.
Sharing his experience Sameer Chishty said that as an investor, their ten-year experience in Pakistan has been very positive. He clarified that he is not saying this merely because he shared the stage with the Deputy Prime Minister but it reflects his practical experience.
He said that Pakistan offers numerous and attractive investment opportunities and under the leadership of the Prime Minister, positive effects are being seen on the country’s economy.
Sameer Chishty added that no one invests unless conditions are appropriate but in recent years Pakistan’s economy has shown stability and is now moving towards growth.
He noted that the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister are working on economic and political reforms which has increased investor confidence.
He reiterated that the time has passed when Pakistan was alone in the world; now Pakistan is recognized as a prominent player both in the region and globally.
Chishty further said that Pakistan is the only country in the world that maintains good relations with both the United States and China, while also holding strong ties with Saudi Arabia and the UAE. He added that both the government and the establishment have played a special role in bringing Pakistan to this position.
He said that Pakistan needs improvements in infrastructure but this is not solely the government’s responsibility; the private sector also bears responsibility and AsiaPak Investments has actively contributed.
He also mentioned that they have provided district-level transport, courier, and bus services while also trying to improve Pakistan’s infrastructure through various companies.
Sameer Chishty further said that Pakistan offers immense opportunities for private companies, particularly in the fields of energy, artificial intelligence and IT.
