Anora, a film about a New York prostitute who impulsively marries a wealthy Russian client, dominated the 97th Academy Awards, securing five major Oscars, including Best Picture.

The Sean Baker-directed film also won Best Actress for its 25-year-old lead, Mikey Madison, as well as Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Editing.

In his acceptance speech, Baker urged filmmakers to continue creating for the big screen, warning against the decline of theatrical experiences. “In a time in which the world can feel very divided, this is more important than ever,” he said. “This is my battle cry.”

The Oscar for Best International Film went to Brazil’s I’m Still Here, while No Other Land, a documentary highlighting Palestinian resistance against Israeli occupation, won Best Documentary.
