ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the experience of Supreme Court Justice Dorab Patel had proved that the federal constitutional court was need of Pakistan.
In an important message on X (formerly known Twitter) on Sunday, the PPP chairman recalled that Justice Patel had shared his views about the formation of constitutional court with his colleagues, Asma Jahangir and I A Rehman, adding that all of them agreed with him.
"Our history is unpleasant for those, who think that the Pakistan's politics starts with Cricket World Cup (hinting to the winning of Cricket World Cup under the captaincy of the PTI founder). The history is also unpleasant for those who think that the climax of Pakistani politics is the revolution ‘brought about’ by the PTI founder and General Faiz Hameed (former ISI chief)," he observed.
Bilawal maintained that their commitment to the Charter of Democracy, manifesto and constitutional evolution always remained the same even if the faces of prime ministers, judges and establishment keep changing. He further said that they never arbitrarily amend the constitution and make legislation as dictators and judges do.
He said that they make efforts to get their targets for their upcoming generation, adding that it took them 30 years to restore the 1973 Constitution through the 18th Amendment.
He maintained that it took them about two decades to undo the damages caused by the political judgments of PCO Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and the 19th Amendment. He said that the 26th constitutional amendment is not being done in haste rather it should have been made a long time ago.
Bilawal said that Justice Dorab Patel was among the four distinguished judges who had acquitted Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, adding that Justice Patel refused to be part of judicial killing of Bhutto.
Justice Patel, co-founder of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, was of the opinion that there was no evidence to punish the leader of the people, he said.
