Amid escalating turmoil in Venezuela, the country’s power structure has taken a dramatic turn as Vice President Delcy Rodríguez announced that she has assumed presidential responsibilities following a court order. The extraordinary development has further intensified political tensions in the country.
Addressing a news conference after taking charge, Delcy Rodríguez rejected the stance of US President Donald Trump and issued a firm demand for the immediate release of Nicolás Maduro.
She declared that Nicolás Maduro remains Venezuela’s only legitimate president, stressing that the nation will not accept any form of external pressure.
Speaking in a strong tone, Rodríguez warned that Venezuela would not become a colony of any power and would go to any lengths to defend its sovereignty, territory, and natural resources.
She also sent a message to the public, saying the state would safeguard national dignity at all costs.
It is worth noting that the US military reportedly carried out airstrikes on multiple locations, including the Venezuelan capital Caracas, after which President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were arrested and transferred to the United States.
During the operations, at least seven loud explosions were heard in the capital, while low-flying warplanes over different areas of the city spread fear and panic among residents.
According to US media, the strikes were ordered directly by President Donald Trump, pushing Venezuela into a new and dangerous political and military phase where power, resistance, and sovereignty now stand in direct confrontation.
