According to the most recent information, the UAE stopped granting visas to regular Pakistanis, causing chaos for thousands of workers and their families. Once a place where Pakistanis constructed Dubai's famous skyscrapers and sent essential remittances home, the Gulf country now seems to be closing its doors nearly completely, raising concerns about a complete travel ban.
Salman Chaudhry, Pakistan's Additional Interior Secretary, cautioned the Senate that only diplomats and holders of blue passports are now eligible for visas, while ordinary residents will have to wait indefinitely. He shockingly disclosed that Riyadh and Abi Dhabi had even contemplated a complete ban on Pakistanis.
Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri affirmed that worries about criminal activities by some Pakistani guests are the reason behind the crackdown. "Only in exceptional circumstances are visas granted, and even then, it requires extraordinary effort," she stated.
Following a spate of visa denials, Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with UAE officials and was assured that the procedure would be accelerated. However, the most recent reports indicate that those assurances might not materialize.
