Los Angeles: Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland, best known for his roles as counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer in 24 and as the U.S. president in Designated Survivor, has been arrested following allegations that he physically assaulted and threatened a ride-share driver in Hollywood.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the incident took place at approximately 12:15 a.m. PST (8:15 GMT) on Monday at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.

Authorities stated that Sutherland “entered a ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver, and made criminal threats.” Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries during the altercation.

The 59-year-old actor was released after posting a bond of $50,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on 2 February.

The LAPD’s Hollywood Division is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. The actor’s representatives have been contacted by the media for comment.

Sutherland, the son of legendary actor Donald Sutherland, has a history of legal issues spanning over a decade. In 2007, he was sentenced to 48 days in jail for driving under the influence and violating probation.

He was arrested on assault charges in 2009, though the case was later dropped. More recently, in 2020, he was taken into custody for making an illegal U-turn in Hollywood.

This latest arrest adds to the actor’s previous brushes with the law, highlighting a recurring pattern of legal troubles. Sutherland’s arrest has drawn significant attention, given his high-profile career in Hollywood and iconic status in television and film.
