The gospel world has lost a true icon. Ron Kenoly, the voice behind countless powerful worship anthems and a pioneer of modern praise music, has passed away at the age of 81.
The sad news was shared on February 3, 2026, by Bruno Miranda, Kenoly’s long-time music director and close friend, who expressed his grief and admiration for the legendary worship leader.
“For over 20 years, I had the privilege of walking beside him in ministry, not just as his music director, but as a son and a witness to a life marked by extraordinary faithfulness,” Miranda wrote in an emotional tribute. “He was never just an artist or performer. He was a worship leader, and he lived to guide others into the presence of the King.”
Kenoly’s contribution to contemporary worship music was nothing short of revolutionary. Known for his ability to lead people into authentic, transformative worship experiences he didn’t just perform songs he set the stage for spiritual encounters.
His approach to worship wasn’t about the spotlight; it was about connecting people with God on a deeper level. “A worship leader’s calling is not to perform songs, but to lead people into true worship,” Miranda added, honoring the legacy Kenoly leaves behind.
Born on December 6, 1944, Kenoly’s impact on Christian music spanned decades, with nominations for nine GMA Dove Awards, including a win for Praise & Worship Album of the Year for his 1997 release Welcome Home. His music has shaped generations, connecting hearts worldwide in faith and devotion.
The cause of his death has not been disclosed, but his influence is undeniable. Ron Kenoly’s legacy as a leader who ushered in the presence of God through song will live on in every worship service, every song, and every heart he touched.
While the world mourns the loss of this worship giant, his work will continue to inspire and lead new generations into powerful moments of worship. Rest in peace, Ron Kenoly. Your music and your mission will never be forgotten.
