RAWALPINDI: The number of confirmed dengue fever cases in Rawalpindi has climbed to 64, with six new cases reported in the last 24 hours. Of the new patients, four are from Murree and two are from Rawalpindi city.
Despite the increase in cases, health authorities have confirmed that no dengue-related deaths have been reported in the district so far this year.
In response to the rising numbers, local health and municipal authorities have ramped up their anti-dengue efforts. This year alone, a total of 45,029 people have been tested for dengue.
In a large-scale checking operation, authorities have inspected over 4.3 million homes, with an alarming 71,523 positive larvae samples discovered, indicating widespread breeding sites. A more targeted inspection of 157,647 high-risk locations found dengue larvae in 11,689 of them.
The government has taken strict action against those found to be in violation of dengue standard operating procedures (SOPs).
So far, a total of 2,390 cases have been registered for non-compliance. These actions have also resulted in the sealing of 1,279 premises and the issuance of 3,594 challans, with fines amounting to over 4.48 million Pakistani rupees. These measures are part of a broader strategy to prevent further spread of the mosquito-borne disease.
