YouTube has officially increased the prices of its Premium and YouTube Music subscription plans, with the revised rates applying to both new and existing subscribers.

Under the updated structure the individual YouTube Premium plan has risen to $15.99 per month reflecting a $2 increase from the previous $13.99. The family plan has also seen a notable hike of $4, bringing the new monthly cost to $26.99. Meanwhile, the student plan has been adjusted to $8.99 per month.

The YouTube Premium Lite plan which provides ad-free viewing for most content except music videos and songs has increased from $7.99 to $8.99 per month.

In addition YouTube Music subscriptions have also been revised with the individual plan now priced at $11.99 per month, while the family plan has increased to $18.99 from $16.99.

According to a YouTube spokesperson in a statement to TechCrunch, the price adjustments are aimed at maintaining and improving service quality while supporting creators and artists on the platform.

The company highlighted that the subscription model helps sustain features such as ad-free viewing, background play, and access to a vast music library of over 300 million tracks.

YouTube also addressed recent viral claims regarding unskippable 90-second advertisements, clarifying that no such ad format exists and that it is not currently being tested.

The revised pricing will be implemented across U.S. plans starting from June 2026. Existing subscribers will receive prior notification via email at least 30 days before their new rates take effect.

This price revision comes amid a wider trend in the streaming industry, where platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, and Spotify have also adjusted their subscription costs in recent years. YouTube last increased its Premium pricing in July 2023, when it had already surpassed 125 million subscribers globally.
