The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has announced the successful launch of Pakistan’s second indigenous Electro-Optical satellite (EO-2) from the Yangjiang Seashore Launch Centre (YSLC), China.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Suparco said the achievement marks an important step forward in Pakistan’s satellite development capabilities and shows continued progress in strengthening the national space programme.
According to Suparco, the EO-2 satellite was planned, designed, and assembled in Pakistan at the Satellite Research and Development Centre (SRDC). The satellite was developed through local research and systems engineering, reflecting the country’s growing expertise in satellite design, payload integration, testing, and mission preparation.
The statement explained that EO-2 has been built to work alongside the previously launched EO-1 satellite. It is capable of observing the Earth in different lighting conditions, which helps improve the understanding of surface features and ensures more accurate detection of changes.
Working together, EO-1 and EO-2 improve the consistency of imaging and enhance analytical accuracy for national-level applications. Suparco said that with the addition of EO-2, Pakistan’s Earth observation system has been further strengthened, increasing the availability of data for long-term national use.
The mission also reflects Suparco’s commitment to applied research, development of skilled professionals, and the steady growth of local space infrastructure, while supporting Pakistan’s goal of building dependable, locally engineered space systems that contribute to planning, governance, and resource management.
