Legendary Pakistani folk singer Attaullah Khan Esakhelvi recently opened up about the challenges he faced in the early stages of his career.

Speaking at a press conference in London, Esakhelvi revealed that his family, especially his father, was initially against his singing ambitions. “My entire family opposed my singing, especially relatives who now take pride in my achievements,” he shared.

He also recalled how his father punished him for singing, but his mother secretly supported him, later telling him she would listen to his songs in private.

Despite early opposition, Esakhelvi expressed deep gratitude for the love and support he receives from Pakistani fans worldwide. “I am indebted to the love of Pakistanis worldwide, even in far-off places like Fiji,” he said.

The singer also shared a personal gesture, revealing, “Whenever I see my picture on the back of a truck, I stop and embrace the driver.”

Esakhelvi acknowledged the power of social media in promoting new talent, saying it has made it easier for emerging singers to reach a global audience. The iconic singer, born on August 19, 1951, plans to release a new Pashto song soon, continuing his legacy in Punjabi folk music.
