An Editorial Blunder: Social Media Lashes Out At SAMAA for Spreading Fake News about PM Khan

Pakistanis do not often show any sympathy to those who try to mislead them. The leading name in spreading false news  is none other than one of the Pakistan’s so-called leading news channels, Samaa TV which has tried to garner some attention by posting a piece of fake news  time and again. However, it has always backfired quickly.

On May 25, 2020 the picture of Prime Minister Imran Khan visiting Nathia Gali was posted on Twitter by the channel, stating that the PM is spending his Eid Holidays with his family. However, after facing strong backlash from the PM house, Samaa’s Editor realized their mistake and had to delete the tweet. The pictures were from the year 2017 when PM Khan had visited the region. People called out the ‘prestigious’ news channel for misleading them and spreading false information.

Seems like some other traditional media outlets are on the payroll of vested interests. This happens quite frequently with the channel. Samaa TV often faces similar trouble for false stories. It seems like they have no internal control and verification has become a huge issue for the media outlet’s digital team.
